Cora is a 7 year old female cross breed. She is currently in a pound in northern Spain, and is looking for her second chance. We try to give as much information as possible about the dogs we have looking for homes, but due to the environment Cora is currently living in, this is difficult. She arrived about 3 years ago from an animal hording home where she was kept in a house with more than 30 dogs. That's also the reason why she hasn't been socialized with people and therefore is very fearful of people. She tries to run away and hide when someone approaches. She also isn't used to walk on the lead and when she was taken out to get some pictures of her, she was like a  statue and didn't move, but accepted being touched. With dogs she is quite the opposite. She is used to live with them and shares her cage with smaller, but also large dogs, and doesn't have any issues with them.
Adopting a dog from a pound environment requires patience, commitment, and the understanding that four walls and a cement floor has been the dog’s entire world until they join you in your home. Some pound dogs adapt quickly to life in a home, but many of the dogs we work with have spent months or even years in this environment, interacting only with humans during feeding times and when their run is cleaned out. Depending on their past experiences in life, they may have never seen the kind side of humans, never been taught how to walk on a lead, relax in a home or have experienced what it means to be loved and feel safe.

The pound is a noisy, stressful environment, with lots of dogs and lots of movement at times, amidst many days that all look exactly the same. No dog deserves this life, and we feel Cora would thrive in a home environment with care and attention.

For Cora we are looking for a home that is committed to patiently and calmly showing her what it feels like to live life outside of this environment. In reality this implies all of the training and care a puppy demands, but given to an adult dog who may have difficult past experiences that they bring with them. Cora will need to learn how to feel comfortable with attention, how to tolerate a harness and walk on a lead, how to go outside for the toilet and how to hear the noise of daily life and not feel afraid (imagine what a washing machine, television or car engine would sound like if you’d never heard one before!)

This certainly requires patience and time, but the reward of seeing a dog come out of their shell and enjoy life is a unique experience. Experienced homes, with high and fully fenced gardens and no children are preferred.

If you would like to change the life of a dog like Cora, please get in touch. We would love to hear from you. Please be aware that we only rehome dogs to England or Wales, but NOT Scotland.
