DESCRIPTION
Hippo is a 3 month old male Hound Cross. He and his 5 siblings were found together with their mum next to a heavy traffic country road in Northern Spain, from where we were able to rescue them and get them to safety. He is a gorgeous hound breed cross, the vet assumes he is a Sabueso Cross. The mum weights about 25kg, but the father is unknown. We estimate Hippo will be of medium-large size, but that isn’t a guarantee why his forever home should be able to handle a larger dog and be ready for it, in the case Hippo grows more than expected.
The puppies personalities are really beginning to shine. Hippo is a happy and curious puppy. He is an adventurous little thing and isn’t shy about investigating new and unfamiliar situations. As a boy of such a tender age, Hippo is unscathed by events in his life to date and has the generous hearted innocence and wonderful playful temperament that can be expected of a puppy. Hippo has been handled from a very young age and is therefore confident in the presence of people. He doesn’t hesitate to approach, and he greets visitors with a wagging tail. He is friendly not only with his siblings but also with other dogs of his litter, and we wouldn’t have any concerns about him suitability for a home with another dog.
Hippo cannot be rehomed to families with young children, as we want him to be the priority in the home. We will only consider applications from adopters who are dog experience and have had dogs before or currently have a dog. Hippo is best suited to young or middle aged adopters, as he is of an active breed that loves being in nature and exploring the outdoors.
We’re looking for homes outside of the city. We think the puppies would prefer suburban or semi-rural homes, where they have lots of surrounding green spaces to explore, and the opportunity to go on long walks. As they are a hound cross, their recall will need lots of work and they need chances to sniff and scent, as this is a natural and rewarding behavior for the breed. The puppies have not experienced a conventional indoor home lifestyle, and therefore his adopter must be patient and understanding as he adjusts to an entirely new environment and routine.
They’re learning new things every day, so with a bit of time, they’re bound to adapt. Puppies require lots of training and continued socialization, and the outcome of putting in the hard work at their young age will be so rewarding when they grow into balanced, obedient and young adults. This litter is currently based in Northern Spain but Hippo is ready to travel to England or Wales (NOT Scotland) once his right forever home comes forward. He is microchipped, vaccinated, health checked and comes with a full passport. Due to his age, he is not yet spayed and this will be a requirement of his adoption.
