DESCRIPTION
Hippo is a male Hound Cross of around 2 years old. He and his 5 siblings were found together with their mum next to road with heavy traffic in Northern Spain, from where they were taken to safety. The puppies survived parvovirus as babies - but sadly, 2 years later Hippo and his brother Sul have never had a single adoption request. Hippo is a gorgeous hound breed cross, the vet assumes he is a Sabueso Cross.
Hippo started his life at the rescue site a happy and curious puppy, who loved running and playing with his doggy friends, investigating and exploring all day long.
He was fairly confident around people and really enjoyed interacting with them, but unfortunately so much time at the rescue site (which is in a rural area without many visitors), has left him wary and nervous in his interactions.
This is nothing that couldn't be remedied with the love and attention of a family of his own, but Hippo will need a patient and understanding home, who gives him the time and space to settle slowly and to take things at his own pace.
He is a very sweet boy, who currently shares his space with other dogs. He may benefit from a resident canine companion, to help guide him as he works out life in a home.
Hippo isn't yet housetrained, as he has always lived outside, and he isn't yet used to lots of urban noises, as he lives on a rural finca. He would therefore benefit from a secure, fenced garden where he can explore at his own pace, and a rural home would be best.
Everything about life indoors will be new to this lovely boy- from lead walking, to noises, to meeting people, to housetraining and being left- he will need to be shown the way.. as if he were an oversized puppy learning all about the world for the first time.
These wonderful boys have had such bad luck in his short life- overlooked during the "cute puppy" stage, they now finds themselves in need of very patient and experienced homes, committed to everything that comes with bringing on a nervous, under-socialised adolescent dog. With the right support, we have no doubt Hippo will reward his new family ten-fold, as he comes out of his shell and starts to learn what it feels like to have a home of his very own.
Hippo can travel to the UK neutered, microchipped, tested for Meditteranean diseases and vaccinated. He can be adopted in England and Wales (not not Scotland). To find out more about him, please get in touch. We would love to hear from you.
