DESCRIPTION
Robin is a very special boy, in need of a very special home. He clearly had a very tough life in the past, and his experiences have left his wary of contact with people he doesn't know. Even once he does know somebody, he needs to be the one to ask for cuddles when he feels comfortable and ready for them. With the lady who runs the boarding kennels he enjoys gentle scratches, but he doesn't like feeling confined by being picked up. An experienced, adult only home is therefore a must.
Robin is a Podenco Maneto, a breed often used for hunting in Spain. Sadly these dogs are very often mistreated, and they can end up fearful of people and new situations.
Robin has spent most of his life in a boarding kennel in northern Spain - and in over 4 years with us, he has never had an adoption enquiry.
Robin is happy at the boarding kennel as it's all he's ever really known. He runs around with the other dogs, spends time in the outdoor area and he knows his routine. He shares his space with male and female dogs, but he can be vocal and picky when it comes to who he gets on with, it just depends whether he decides he likes them. His best friend at kennels was a huge male mastiff cross, who he absolutely adored. He would lie next to him and even on top of him at times, and he really seemed to take comfort from his presence. Now that dog has been adopted, and he has managed to make new friends.
Robin is an escape artist when given the chance, so a very secure fully fenced garden is essential. While it isn't always a requirement of adoption to have a garden, we feel this would be necessary in Robin's case, as he would most likely not be accepting of a lead, and he may be too frightened to go for daily walks.
We know Robin isn't the easiest dog, and he will most definitely need lots of time and patience to settle and build a bond. But even so, we don't want to think that Robin's entire existence could consist of the four walls of kennels, and we hold out hope there may be a very kind, experienced person out there looking to give a scared dog a second chance at life in a home.
If you have a strong understanding and interest in dog behaviour, and experience guiding a dog like Robin, we would love to hear from you.
He will travel vaccinated, microchipped, neutered and tested for Mediterranean diseases. He can be adopted in England or Wales.
