DESCRIPTION
Toby is a fantastic boy. At the beginning a little shy and timid but as soon as he gets used to someone a super lovely boy. He was found on the streets and brought to a pound. Apart of being a beauty inside he also is it from outside with his unique coat color. This handsome boy is Toby, a large sized crossbreed of around 3 years of age. He was found roaming the streets, and brought in to the pound in Northern Spain. He has been there ever for almost 2 years now, waiting for a family to come forward and offer him a chance.
Toby is shy around people, and struggles to trust at first. We can’t imagine what the poor boy has experienced in the past that has led to him feeling like this, but we do know that he will need patience and gentle affection to help him come out of his shell. At the pound, the dogs have very little interaction with humans, who only see them to feed them and clean the kennels, so overcoming insecurities and nervousness is difficult. Once in a home environment, our dogs tend to learn quickly that humans can be kind and loving, and this is what we desperately want for Toby.
He has been in the pound for too long, and we feel the time has come to get in out and into a home environment. Prospective adopters need to consider the change from Toby’s perspective, as he may have never experienced life in a home, with regular walks and attention. Patience and understanding of this will be important, to help him grow in confidence and thrive.
When the volunteer in Spain visited him at the pound and offered treats, he approached her wagging his tail and seemed so surprised to be given something exciting! We would love for his days to be filled with more of these moments going forward.
Toby currently lives with other dogs in the pound, both male and female, some of which are smaller than him. He doesn’t have a problem sharing his space in general, though he can be slightly dominant with other dogs over food. This is very common with dogs living in shared kennels at the pound, as feeding times are intense and competitive moments. It’s something for his future family to bear in mind, were he to live with other dogs, though with regular feeding times and training, he would learn he that eating doesn't need to be an anxious and stressful moment. We feel he would be happy living with a confident and laid back dog could help him adapt, following the right introduction.
We feel Toby would be best suited to an adult only home, without cats as we do not have the option to test him around them. A fully fenced garden and experience with shy dogs would be preferred. If you feel you can offer Toby the home he deserves, please get in touch. We would love to hear from you. Please be aware that Toby can be rehomed to England and Wales, but NOT Scotland.
